McGrath led the first run and was fourth fastest in the second to finish 0.47 seconds ahead of Brazilian Lucas Pinheiro Braathen. Fellow Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen was third 0.81sec off the pace.

Olympic champion Clement Noel of France finished ninth three weeks before he defends his title at the Milan-Cortina Winter Games.

McGrath takes the lead in the slalom World Cup standings with 372 points, 21 ahead of Pinheiro Braathen with Noel 29 behind the leader.

Frenchman Paco Rassat, winner in Adelboden, and starting with the red bib as the discipline leader, posted the tenth fastest time in the first run and failed to finish the second after straddling a gate while holding a three-tenths of a second lead halfway down the steep section.

Rassat drops from top of the slalom standings to fourth, 32 points behind McGrath.
